The majority of hot tub control systems require two sensors, a high limit sensor on the back of the heater assembly and a temperature sensor located in the spa plumbing or shell to read the actual water temperature. Modern Balboa control systems use two M7 sensors, one at each end of the heater tube to determine flow rate and water temperature so no need for additional external sensors in the spa.
